Ada Sereni, an Italian-born Jew who had immigrated to Palestine in 1927, returned to Italy after the war, where she became the only woman to lead the Mossad Le’Aliza Bet (precursor of Israel’s spy agency, the Mossad) in its mission to facilitate clandestine Jewish immigration into Palestine during the British Mandate. Her courage and determination enabled the organization to grow, and over three years, 28,000 Holocaust survivors were smuggled into Palestine to begin new lives. Yet Ada herself was erased from the pages of history; The Lady in the Black Dress aims to restore her rightful place in the historical narrative.
