PAPER CLIPS

USA, 2004/Documentary, 84 minutes/English, German/Written by Joe Fab/Directed by Elliot Berlin and Joe Fab

In 1998, the middle-school children of Whitwell, Tennessee, were completely unaware of the Holocaust when principal Linda Hooper decided it was time that they learn, as a basis for teaching tolerance and diversity.  Struggling to grasp the concept and enormity of the six million Jews who perished, the children decided to collect six million paper clips, one for each individual exterminated by the Nazis.  Both touching and inspiring, Paper Clips chronicles the vastly successful, years long Paper Clips Project, and the minds and hearts that were forever changed.

Winner of 11 film festival awards around the US, including 5 Audience Awards; recognized in 2004 as one of the Top Five Documentaries by the National Board of Review; 2006 Emmy Award nominee for Outstanding Historical Programming – Long Form

Generously sponsored by Linda Schwab

A pre-recorded interview with principal Linda Hooper and current Paper Clips Project director Taylor McDaniel Kilgore will follow the screening.
