BAD SHABBOS

USA, 2024/Comedy, 84 minutes/English/Written by Zack Weiner and Daniel Robbins/ Directed by Daniel Robbins

Winner of the Audience Award at this year’s Tribeca Film Festival, Bad Shabbos is the story of a newly engaged couple, David and Meg, and the Shabbos dinner where her midwestern, Catholic parents are set to meet his New York, Jewish ones for the first time.  What can we say?  It all goes terribly wrong.  A snappy, hilarious ensemble treat, starring Kyra Sedgwick as the controlling matriarch, David Paymer as the (at all costs) family protector, Cliff “Method Man” Smith as the resourceful building doorman, and an Upper West Side apartment full of other familiar faces.

Special guests for Sunday’s screening:

Zack Weiner Zack Weiner is a writer, actor, producer, and prodigal son of New York’s Upper West Side. You may have seen him starring in Uncaged on Netflix, Pledge, on Hulu, or running for New York’s City Council, as documented in Citizen Weiner.   Co-founder of Manhattan Movie Studio, he has produced, among other films, Devil’s Workshop.  He co-wrote this season’s festival sensation, winner of the Audience Award at Tribeca, Bad Shabbos.
Daniel Robbins is an NYC-based writer-director whose films pulse with high energy and surprising humor.  His breakout film, Pledge, was a hit at Fantasia Film Festival, and won him a Best Director nod at Screamfest. His 2024 docu-mockumentary, Citizen Weiner, nominated for Best Documentary at the Slamdance Film Festival, was quickly followed by Bad Shabbos, which won the Audience Award at Tribeca. Daniel Robbins
