Canada, 2023/Musical Comedy, 65 minutes/English/Created and written by Shaina Silver-Baird and Michael Goldlist/Directed by Daniel am Rosenberg (unrated, contains coarse language, drug use)
At 20, Viv was a promising young singer. At 30, she is an over-aged wild child with a failing career, a self-proclaimed “Bad Jew” living in her mother’s basement and forced to go to services at her childhood synagogue. But fate has its own plan for Viv even if she has to be led there kicking and screaming: somehow she finds that her next big gig is as cantor at the shul. With prayers both familiar and remixed as electro-pop surprises, this delightful film, opined the Canadian Jewish News, “dig[s] into the definition of spiritual identity among secular Jews.”
Winner – Best Film, 2023 Toronto Jewish Film Festival
