An artist’s epic adventure into his family’s secret past, Monsieur Mayonnaise charts Australian artist and filmmaker Philippe Mora’s investigation into his father’s clandestine role in the French Resistance in World War II, and his mother’s miraculous escape en route to Auschwitz. Mora, a pop artist and cult horror-movie Hollywood director, adopts a film noir personality to tell his family’s story. He also packs his paints and easel and travels around the world creating images for an audacious comic book about the Holocaust, his parents, and their survival. From LA to Berlin, Paris to Melbourne, the film, which Variety calls “Fascinating! An eye-catching, engrossing romp,” is a richly layered road movie starring artists, real life heroes, Nazi villains…and copious amounts of tasty French mayonnaise!
Winner: Audience Award, Jewish International Film Festival (Australia)
